#284 - E is for Eel River

I cross the Eel River almost every day when I am home to go to work.

I see the sun when it is rising in the morning...

Or maybe when I am coming home in the morning after
an overnight shift...

I have dozens of photos of these trees...
I love them surrounded in fog..

I catch the beauty of the river coming home at sunset...

In all of it's glorious colors....

And some coloring and photoshopping of my own...

I love this river because crossing it means I am almost home...

#295 D is for Destin

A few years ago we went to a friend's wedding in Destin, Florida.
I was in residency in Buffalo, NY so it made for a great
getaway weekend to somewhere warm...

I was amazed by the beautiful white, sandy beaches...

And somebody's ship that didn't make it through
the last hurricane...

And little pipers that ran ahead of me on the beach...

I could easily get used to this...

#295 - C is for Cartagena

I can now say I've been to South America...
We went on a cruise through the Panama Canal,
and our first Port of Call was Cartagena, Columbia.

The only thing I knew about Cartagena is that it's where
Kathleen Turner's character Joan Wilder goes looking to save her sister
in the movie "Romancing the Stone."

What we found was an incredible mix of old and new world
art and architecture.

One of the more interesting places for me was
Inquisition Hall where the Spanish
used to torture presumed witches and other prisoners.

Nothing remains of the original building, but parts have
been rebuilt with intermixed new art throughout
the exhibit.  And the stories are incredible.

It definitely has quite a history,
and it was a great experience.
Now I can add another country to the count....

I love sailboats...
I love sailing and sailing on sailboats...

I love taking pictures of sailboats while on another boat...

And another boat..

I obviously also love taking pictures of boats while traveling...

This is a pic of a local boat in St. Lucia...
Just makes you want to go back, doesn't it...?

#297 - A is for Acapulco

Hello and Welcome to my Blog...!!

I was trying to think about what to focus on this month,
and while I generally don't do themes,
this year is going to be the Year of Traveling.

So I thought that I would intersperse some of my travel photos
amoungst my thoughts on the medical field,
my patient experiences,
my love of food,
and my random flights of fancy.

So we're starting off in Acapulco....

If you've never been, a bay cruise is a must!
I think Acapulco Bay is one of the most beautiful in the world...

Along with the famous cliff divers,
which we got a chance to see from the ocean side,
we went to a place I had never been before...

The Chapel of Peace (Capilla de la Paz)

It was built by a wealthy family as a memorial
to their two sons who died tragically.

It's a non-denominational chapel built at the top
of the Las Brisas complex.

The windows are made of onyx, and
the cross towers on the peak above the city.

Sculptures create beautiful scenes amidst the
landscaping of the garden.

And, you can't beat the view..!!
In this pic, you can see our cruise ship off in the distance.

Pedal Pushing

I went and did it...
I invested in a bike,
and helmet,
and pocket holder,
and a couple of other accessories that were just for fun.

Now understand that as an ED doc,
I see a lot of the bad that can happen when you're out riding...

But, I also understand the health benefits
of getting off your butt and doing something...
So I am...

Today, my first 5.6 mile foray took along
the American River Bike Trail
which has some 30+ miles of trails...

I thought I was going to puke my guts out after
the first hill just getting to this point...

We'll just work our way up slowly, shall we...?

A Marvelous Voyage

I know I haven't written in a while.  You see, I took two weeks off work and went on a cruise across the Panama Canal.  From Miami to Los Angeles.  I had to work before the cruise to make up for the time I would be gone, and coming home, I had to jump back into work to make up for the time I missed.   But, I digress...

I thought I would share a few of the over 1500 photos and videos we took while on the trip.  I have some free time at the end of the month, so I will have a movie to go along with this, but for now, enjoy the scenery... My husband and I sure did...

Cruise day.  View from Miami Hilton Downtown.  Our boat is second from the left.

Cartagena, Columbia view of old town from fortress.

Art work from the Palace of the Inquisition in Cartagena, Columbia

Sail day from the front deck of the Norwegian Star

Approaching the Gatun Locks from the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal

The Bridge of the Americas as we sail toward the Pacific Ocean

Our room steward made towel animals every evening... fun trying to guess what he was going to do next...

A puffer fish during our snorkel tour in Huatulco, Mexico

These are just a few, but I am saving the majority of my pictures for the A to Z challenge starting on April 1... come back to check them out!!
