The Six Monthiversary

Half a year ago, I sat at your side and held your hand
when you took your last breath...

Six months ago, I promised you that I would do
all the things that you and I had planned to do together,
but I would be now doing them alone...

Twenty-six weeks ago, I prayed as your soul was taken up to Heaven,
and I was left as a witness to your incredible faith...
and hope...
and trust...
and love...

A year ago, I didn't know that 183 days later you would be gone,
and that I would feel like my life had ended too...
but you knew life goes through cycles...
and these chicks you raised are now adults...
and life goes on...

At 3:20 p.m., about 4,380 hours ago you died
on a beautiful spring day...
The sky was blue, there were clouds in the sky,
and the sun had shone through your window;
the same window you had looked out of hundreds of times
at the animals you loved to see so much
because you loved to see life,
and you loved life on the farm.

And, you loved life...
And, I will miss you in this life,
and look forward to seeing you again in the next...

Love you, Momma...

Birthday Month Shuffle - 7th Edition Day 6

I originally posted about this song in 2011...
It carries special meaning, especially this year...
She'll be there...

Over Mountains

Over Trees
Over Oceans
Over Seas
I'll be there
In a whisper on the wind

On the smile of a new friend
Just think of me
And I'll be there
Don't be afraid, oh my love

I'll be watching you from above
And I'd give all the world tonight,
To be with you
Because I'm on your side,
And I still care
I may have died,
But I've gone nowhere
Just think of me,

And I'll be there
On the edge of a waking dream

Over Rivers
Over Streams
Through Wind and Rain
I'll be there
Across the wide and open sky

Thousands of miles I'd fly
To be with you
I'll be there
Don't be afraid, oh my love

I'll be watching you from above
And I'd give all the world tonight,
To be with you
Because I'm on your side,
And I still care
I may have died,
But I've gone nowhere
Just think of me,

And I'll be there

K is for Ka

nounEgyptian Religion.a spiritual entity, an aspect of the individual,
believed to live within the body during life
and to survive it after death.

For those that have read my blog previously,
you know that my mother and I have discussions about things
that most people are uncomfortable with...
like living wills and death.

Recently we talked about what she was going to come back as,
just so she could let me know she was doing ok.
"Maybe a hummingbird or a dragonfly."
She told me she was just going to "pinch your toes."

I told her I didn't want to freak out, I just needed some reassurance
that's she's made it to Heaven and everything is good.
She said pinching my toes would definitely send a message.

I'm still trying to convince her to come through as
something less threatening, but
Momma does like to do things her way...

And, I know her spirit will definitely carry on long after she's gone.

November Notes, Day 11

My husband has this thing for old cemeteries.  For as long as I've known him, he's always been interested in them, and whenever we go on a road trip, if there's an old cemetery, he wants to stop and see it.

He says it's because cemeteries are the only place where there is absolute truth.  No lies.  Nothing made up.  Date of birth, date of death, name.  Pretty basic...

I remember one old cemetery in Southern Wisconsin where we stopped.  There was a large mausoleum type tomb to one side.  It was for a man who had about 4 wives.  All buried together, along with some kids.  You just walked around the tomb, and you could see their entire history.  Wife number one died at about 20-something years of age, then wife number two came along and she died at some 30 years of age.  Then there were wives three and four.  A little older and I think the last one finally did outlive him.  A lot of stories on that one tomb.

Even though I don't tell him, I'm sure there's some tombs where the information isn't completely true.  But then, I like to watch a lot of Forensic Files and CSI.... And, I can bet, there's a lot more that those graves would say, if they could only talk, and we could take the time to listen...

myPod Shuffle #26 - I'll Be There

Getting this one in under the wire... If you've heard this song, I know that you can attach your own personal meaning to it.  It was written as a song of consolation after the death of a friend's wife.  I think of it as a personal message from someone who's passed to remind us that they are always with us.  Enjoy...!
