Birthday Shuffle Year V - Day 20 - Our Song

All through out relationship, my DH and I have had a variety of "our songs." I've written about this before in another post, and the post has links to all the videos.

Initially, it was "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic since we had established a long distance relationship while I was in medical school in Wisconsin and he was in Atlanta.

We had some difficulties, as any couple does, during the early part of our relationship.  When we finally sorted through those hard times, and he gave me a promise ring as I entered my internship year, our song became "Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan" which talks about basically spending the rest of your life making up for the difficulties which were caused by immaturity or pride.  This was our first dance at our wedding to this song.

Since our wedding, I can't say that we really have a song now.  Or, at least, not one that we identify with.  So, I like Taylor Swift's "Our Song" because it talks about finding your song in the daily things that happen.  And, it's those little things that continue to build the relationship.  "...'fore I said "Amen" asking God if He could play it again."

#295 D is for Destin

A few years ago we went to a friend's wedding in Destin, Florida.
I was in residency in Buffalo, NY so it made for a great
getaway weekend to somewhere warm...

I was amazed by the beautiful white, sandy beaches...

And somebody's ship that didn't make it through
the last hurricane...

And little pipers that ran ahead of me on the beach...

I could easily get used to this...

Day 22 - Saturday Night Dance Party

What would you tell your 20-something year old self
if you could go back in time..?

I'd tell me to stay in shape so I could continue
dancing like I used to then.

A shot and a beer since I was generally the DD,
and I could dance all night long.
Go to bed at 3, and be up at 8 to be to work at
9 the following morning.

And, I LOVED to dance.
Still do.. in fact, my best friend commented
that dancing at my wedding was the funnest
time she'd had in a long time...
because we love to dance...

So tonight, I thought I would share my
top 10 all time favorite dance songs...

MyPod Birthday Month #26 - Que Chula Toda

By Los Tigeres del Norte

I grew up with this music...
Weddings...
Parties...
Driving in the car...

When looking for music for the wedding,
I actually found this song and included it in the song list...
My cousin and I had a fun time dancing to this,
Although I have to admit..
I tried to lead a time or two...
Or maybe the whole time...
I do love to dance...
And, this is a dancing song...!

Basically it's a song about love at first sight...
Just perfect for our wedding...

What beautiful lips to kiss her
What beautiful face to adore her
What beautiful eyes to take pictures
How beautiful everything is to fall in love with
I only saw you for a little bit in the afternoon
And now my chest is burning
Before you fly to another nest
I'm going to become a spirit
My heart, heart
It is jumping
Because you make it excited
It is dying
For your face and for the kisses from your lips (little mouth)
What beautiful lips to kiss her
What beautiful face to adore her
What beautiful eyes to take pictures
How beautiful everything is to fall in love with

MyPod Birthday Month #6 - La Bamba

"La Bamba" is the quintessential dance song.
Has been for years and years.
It's the one song at my wedding where everybody danced.
And, I still remember my best friend from medical school and I
singing the words to each other as we danced our socks off.

I still remember this moment every time I hear this song...
and, I still sing along no matter where I am...
and,
sometimes,
I even dance a little...

Put It In a Love Song

It's Valentine's Day, and I thought I would borrow this idea from one of the blogs I follow:

Favorite Love Songs

I can't think of any one particular song that is "our song," but my hubby and I do have several songs that have been a part of our relationship since the beginning.

My Girl - The Temptations
This is the first song I associated with my hubby. For some reason he called me "Doll" when we first me, and would sing this to me as we spontaneously danced around the kitchen. I still think of it as his song.

My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion
My hubby and I had a long distance relationship from the start. We communicated via AOL Instant Messanger to cut down on phone bills (these were the days before cell phones) and sent letters back and forth. This song was at the center of our relationship during that time. Every time we parted I kinda felt like the characters in the movie...

I Have Nothing - Whitney Houston
I sing this to my hubby any time it comes on while we're traveling in the car... my singing hasn't improved in 15 years, but he still smiles when I do... especially when I try to hit that last bridge where she doesn't even stop for a breath... whew!

Marry Me - Neil Diamond
I was looking for a wedding song and came across this one randomly. It became our entrance song. Love it! And, we both like Neil Diamond, so it was perfect.

Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan - Gloria Estefan
My hubby actually picked this song for our first dance. I don't know how years later he remembered me playing this song for him and explaining the words. It talks about how "with the years I have left to live, I will show you how much I love you." Perfect for a first dance.

Wherever You Go - Marty Haugen, et al.
I played in the church choir when I was in high school, and the song of Ruth with the lines "Wherever you go, I shall go, wherever you live, so shall I live, your people will be my people, and your God will be my God too." So when we were getting married I looked for the song and found this version on You Tube, which is strange considering I can't find it now... Nonetheless, great song, great lyrics...

and, finally,
Bendita Tu Luz - Mana
Funny, this was another song we randomly found while looking for songs for the wedding. Jerry and I met quite by accident, right place, right time, and this song talks of that, blessing the moment that two people meet and "make of two journeys one journey."

Birthday Shuffle a Deux #15

We're almost halfway through... whew!!

Bendita Tu Luz - Mana

This was our wedding song.  About two weeks before the wedding, we realized we didn't have any of the music ready.  Granted, we only had 4 months total in which to plan the wedding, so songs weren't at the top of the list.

Hubby and I sat down one day via phone (he in Atlanta and I in Buffalo), and we went through song after song trying to decide.  Finally we had everything but the final song, the one we would exit as man and wife to.  I had always liked the band Mana, and I started going through videos of their songs.  Then we came across this one.  The rhythmn, the words, everything about it spoke to the way we had met and fallen in love.  We had it..!  Enjoy...!

Bendito el lugar, y el motivo de estar ahí, (blessed the place and the reason for being there)
Bendita la coincidencia, (blessed the coincidence)
Bendito el reloj, que nos puso puntual ahí, (blessed the clock, that put both us both there at the same time)
Bendita sea tu presencia. (blessed is your presence)

Bendito Dios por encontrarnos, en el camino, (blessed God for finding us on the same road)
Y de quitarme esta soledad, de mi destino. (and for taking away loneliness from my destiny)

Bendita la luz, bendita la luz de tu mirada, (blessed the light, blessed the light of your glance)
Bendita la luz, bendita la luz de tu mirada, (blessed the light, blessed the light of your glance)
Desde el alma. (from the soul)

Bendito ojos, que me esquivaban, (blessed eyes that peeked at me)
Simulaban desde que me ignoraban, (stimulating even though they seemed to ignore me)
Y de repente, sostienes la mirada. (and suddenly you held the gaze)

Gloria divina, diste suerte de buen tino, (Divine glory, you gave luck)
Y de encontrarte justo ahí, en medio del camino, (and to find you there in the middle of the road)
Gloria al cielo de encontrarte ahora, (Glory to heaven for finding you now)
Llevarte mi soledad, y coincidir en mi destino, (Taking away my lonliness and putting my fate together)
En el mismo destino. (in the same fate)

Bendita la luz, bendita la luz de tu mirada,
Bendita la luz, bendita la luz de tu mirada,
Bendita mirada,
Bendita mirada desde el alma, tu mirada,
Bendita, bendita, bendita mirada,
Bendita tu alma y bendita tu luz.

Tu mirada, oh, oh, oh,
Digo es tan bendita tu luz, amor, amor,
Bendito el reloj y bendito el lugar, (blessed the clock and blessed the place)
Benditos tus besos cerquita del mar, (blessed your kisses close to the sea)
Y tu mirada, amor, amor, (and your glance, love, love)
Que bendita tú mirada, tu mirada amor.
